The 1st impression the visitor gets as he heads to city area from Changi airport is the lush greenery, which is a feast to the eyes lined up along the expressway. So, even if you are not a garden or park lover, the beauty and tranquility offered by the gardens can even draw the party-hopping animals to spend time relaxing in some of the most popular Gardens and parks in Singapore. Gardens by the BayThis relatively new garden easily moves to top spot as most popular garden, based on the variety of attractions it offers. The Flower Dome (a dome shaped conservatory comprising of 7 gardens and also the world’s largest column-less glasshouse) is the primary draw. Southern Ridges and Five ParksThe Southern Ridges is actually just a connecting trail, but since it connects 5 nearby parks, all the 5 parks including this fascinating trail make for a good stop for nature lovers. The 5 parks connected in this trail include the Mt Faber Park, Telok Belangah Hill Park, Hort Park, Kent Ridge Park and Labrador Nature Reserve Park. An added attraction along this trail is the variety of birds, which can be spotted as well as some amazing bridges used to connect the parks. The Southern Ridges itself are in a wave form called as Henderson waves and is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore. Definitely ensure that your legs are strong enough and the shoes are firm enough to take a lot of walking. 4. MacRitchie Reservoir and MacRitchie Nature TrailThis is among the oldest park in Singapore and its pristine charm and amazing trails make it a nature-lover and joggers delight. The key attraction is Treetop Walk, a long suspension bridge which connects the 2 highest points Bukit Pearce and Bukit Kalang. The reservoir, which is in the middle of this nature trail offers kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Animal lovers have the added attraction of seeing long-tailed macaque monkeys, owls, flying lemurs and monitor lizards and other unique forest animals. A beautiful picnic spot awaits the full family, especially if it is bright and sunny outside. 5. Chinese and Japanese GardensThese gardens are located at the west side of Singapore, so distance may be a factor to consider if you are living towards the east part. Season is another important factory, and the Mid-Autumn festival held during August / September is primarily the best time to go. These quaint gardens are landscaped in the form of the old gardens found in China and Japan. Twin pagodas, 4 Chinese pavilions and a Bonsai garden with over 2000 miniature trees and a 100 yr pomegranate trees from Shantung in China are primary highlights. During the lantern festival, these gardens are very well lit-up at night and make for an arresting spectacle. Children would be entertained by the turtle museum located within the premises. Do note the entire Jurong Lake area is being redeveloped and the Gardens may be enhanced. Other important parks and gardens, which could offer more attractions to nature lovers, are the Bukit Timah Nature reserve, Pasir Ris Park and Haw Par Villa.
