If you’re thinking that people wear sunglasses just to look hip and cool, maybe you are judging too fast. There can be several reasons why we love to cover our eyes at any given time—and it can vary for each one of us.
Kyle, 19, from Singapore shared how he started collecting sports sunglasses, “I used to envy my dad who always bring sunglasses after his summer break. When I started modelling, I had more money to buy things and the collection just grew when friends and families noticed that I love wearing sunglasses and they started giving me different designs during Christmas and my birthday. Unintentionally, I began a collection and now I can’t even stop. I find sports sunglasses very utilitarian when I get on my bike and just stroll around our village.”
“There’s something trendy and at the same time geeky about clip on sunglasses,” giddily said Mara, 22, from Singapore. “I’m a bit weird and there are days I don’t like looking people straight in the eye because I want to focus on other things that matter like reading or anything I am passionate about at the moment. I always keep a sunglass on my bag just like how I always keep a book with me wherever I go.”
Optometrist Jinkee Valcouver, 34, warned about on choosing sunglasses, “ You want to choose sunglasses with 100 percent blocking ability to protect you from the UVA and UVB rays. Otherwise, you better keep them displayed on the store rack because you are risking your own eyesight. While you may think that the more pricey the tag is, the better the eyewear would be, you are definitely basing it on the wrong things.”
Dianne Lee, 24, loves wearing sunglasses especially during summer where she flaunt her sexy body but would rather keep her eyes under a proper shade, “I easily get dark circles. It’s in my genes. I can drink enough water and sleep 8 hours a day, but my skin under the eye gets darker and darker so I really need to take extra care of my eye area. I also noticed how I easily feel dizzy whenever someone’s face gets too close to mine and it has always puzzled me why the glare of the sun isn’t something I can handle with ease. So, my sunglasses at home are about 22 now with different colors. I take care of them because I depend on them so much.”
In the article titled How to Select the Perfect Pair of Sunglasses posted at skincancer.org, some very essential facts were shared about this eyewear, “Regardless of frame shape or material, it is very important that your sunglasses feel comfortable and are not too heavy. Frames can slip down your nose if not properly adjusted. Avoid this by making sure the temples (stems) of the sunglasses fit comfortably around your ears. Different types of lenses are appropriate for different activities. Polarized lenses are good for driving and water sports since they reduce glare from reflective surfaces like water, increasing visibility. Colored lenses serve a variety of purposes: Brown lenses create greater color contrast, providing better visibility on solid-color surfaces such as ski slopes by highlighting the peaks and valleys, while yellow lenses are good for both contrast and depth perception, making it a good choice for golfers and for bicyclists who need to be wary of debris on the road. Grey lenses offer the truest color correctness.”
